|Christian Communism: The hammer from the hammer and sickle is replaced by a Latin cross.|
If Communism no longer exists, as we are so often told, then why do we have the South African Communist Party (SACP) in South Africa? Why are they an essential partner of the Tripartite Alliance with the African National Congress (ANC) and the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU)? Why does the name “Communist” still feature so prominently in their organization? If it were dead then why are the hammer and sickle and the red star still the universal symbols of Communism?
There are today various forms of Communism still flourishing. The most dominant and most violent form is Marxist Communism, which is still practised by the ANC. However, there is also Anarchist Communism (also known as Libertarian Communism) and even Christian Communism, a form of religious communism based upon the view that the teachings of Jesus Christ urge Christians to support communism as the ideal social system.
Christian communists trace the origins of their practice to teachings in the New Testament, such as the Acts of the Apostles at chapter 2 and verses 44 and 45:
For purposes of clarity I shall provide the relevant scripture - sourced from the King James Version, starting from verse 40:
40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. -- (Own emphasis added)
In addition to the above scripture, numerous other Biblical passages have been cited to support the idea that Communism is the most ethical social system on earth.
In November 1999 the Speaker of the Eastern Cape Legislature, Mkhangeli Matomela, announced that Jesus was a communist and challenged all Christians to prove him wrong. At the time Matomela was defending the alliance between the ANC and the South African Communist Party.
See the news report: Jesus was a communist, says ANC man.
The challenge was taken up by christianaction.org.za who published a counterargument in their newsletter, available here for online viewing.
I’ve taken the liberty of reproducing an extract from a letter pertaining to this issue, written by someone with personal experience in communist lands:
COMMUNISM IS ANTI-CHRIST
"It is ludicrous for ANC politician Mkhangeli Matomela to allege that our Lord Jesus Christ was a communist. If communists really believed that Jesus was a communist why have they gone to such extraordinary, excessive lengths to outlaw the teachings of Jesus?
My father-in-law, Rev. Bill Bathman spent over 30 years smuggling Bibles behind the Iron Curtain into Eastern Europe. During my ministry in Romania and Albania I met Christians who had been severely persecuted for their faith in Jesus. Some Christians in Albania were tortured and imprisoned for 10 years – merely for possessing a copy of the Bible!
During the 1980’s in Marxist Mozambique and Angola, I saw churches burned down, Bibles burned and Christians massacred by the communist Frelimo and MPLA governments. When I was imprisoned for my missionary activities, a SNASP security policeman began his interrogation of me in Machava security prison with these words: "I am the devil! I am not only a Marxist and a Leninist, I am a Stalinist! I hate Christians!"
My solitary confinement prison cell testified to this marxist’s hatred of Christians – Scripture verses, doves, crosses, prayers and descriptions of tortures endured had been etched into the walls by previous inmates.
There is a world of difference between the love of Christ and the hatred of communism. You cannot equate voluntary Christian sharing and generosity with compulsory communist confiscation and theft."

"And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world."
